Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli said on Friday that the way his team beat Delhi Capitals “gives them the confidence to play the game from any situation” on their way to the IPL playoffs.
RCB won the toss and elected to bat after KS Bharat’s last six (78 not out) required 15 runs from the last over.
“Incredible game. We have nothing to lose, but it is a competitive game, it will always be in the IPL. It gives us confidence that we can take the game out of any situation,” Kohli said after the game.
Table-toppers set a 165 target after sending third-ranked RCB into the bat.
“It was great to lose wickets and beat the team to the top. We have now beaten twice. The way AB batted in the beginning, then with KS (Bharat) and Maxwell in the end was unbelievable.
Wicketkeeper Bharat was promoted to number one and he delivered in style.
“We thought it might be a fall or something. We thought about it another way. We did not chase big in this tournament. Third number is not an issue.
“We want to give Christian some time, he’s batting well in the middle. We used that opportunity and it did not happen.
“We know KS is a man who can come in at three at any stage. I think he needs to be sharp on the field.
Sometimes the boundaries at key stages can be complex. You should always switch it on. “
“Such a victory gives you confidence. We played well in Sharjah. We were able to manage the situation and control the opposition if the situation got away from us.”
In addition to giving life to Maxwell (51), Delhi dropped a few catches and those misses eventually lost them.
“Look, in the T20s, you talk a lot about fielding and if you field like we did tonight, the other team deserves to win,” said DC captain Rishabh Pant.
“We lost a lot of wickets in the middle, but I think the total is good enough for this kind of wicket, but we have to do better on the field next time.
“It doesn’t look great right now, these are the games you have to win, but we’re 100 percent done.”
