Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli was clear on his team’s assessment on Monday and said the batting fall over the Kolkata Knight Riders was a wake-up call for his team.
Kohli was all out for 92 in the RCB’s choice to bat in the 200th IPL. KKR smashed the target in 10 overs.
“We were 42 weird for one and lost five wickets in 20 overs, which was a very difficult situation to come back to. Kohli said at a press conference.
“It’s important to have a good partnership on this surface. You can not afford to lose four or five wickets in 20 overs. We did not expect it to snow so quickly, we can not imagine it.”
“You could argue that we are rusty but as professional cricketers, we expect you to change and adjust to the formats, as well as the world cricket dynamic today.
“We didn’t see any difficulty in doing so but sometimes it takes you a game to get into a tournament. Especially in Format 8 you have to be with the 8-ball. If not, the other team will be all over you.”
Praising KKR spinner Varun Chakraborty for his excellent spell of 3/13, Kohli said, “Very well, that’s what I say in Doug Out, he will be a key factor when he plays for India. We should see similar performances from all the youth so that the strength of the Indian cricket bench is strong.
“And, he is a man who is going to play for India in the near future and that is a great sign,” the Indian captain said.
