Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced the appointment of Kane Williamson as captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 for the remainder of David Warner. The franchise has announced a change in the mix of foreign players in their next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 2.
“The team management has also decided to change their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals,” SRH said in a statement.

“This decision did not come easily because the management respects the immense impact David Warner has made over the years for the franchise. As we face the rest of the season, we are confident that David will continue to help us succeed on and off the field,” SRH added.
SRH are currently bottom of the points table with just one win in six games. In the first few games, Williamson was not good enough to play, but he came back and scored 108 from three games, including an unbeaten 66 to bring the SRH match into the Super Over.
Warner, on the other hand, struggled with his strike rate. The Aussie opener has scored 193 runs in six games, including two half-centuries, but has a strike rate of 110.29. Also in the previous game, he scored a half-century on the run-a-ball which led to a low score against Delhi Capitals (DC). SRH in-form English opener Jason Roy or West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder could replace the franchise’s IPL 2016-title-winning captain.
This is not the first time Kiwi Skipper has taken the reins of SRH. In the absence of Warner due to a ball tampering ban, Williamson led SRH to the IPL 2018 final, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
