Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni arrived in the city on Tuesday ahead of the departure of a team of players to the UAE, which will host the Indian Premier League next month.
A group of Indian players will travel mostly to the UAE on August 13, a CSK official said.
“The Indian players in the team and those available are likely to leave for the UAE on August 13,” CSK CEO KS Vishwanathan told PTI.
Dhoni’s arrival in Chennai was celebrated by fans on social media.
“Lion Day entry,” CSK posted on its Twitter handle with a photo of Dhoni about the captain reaching the city.
There will be no camp in Chennai before the CSK players leave for the UAE, Viswanathan said.
The second half of IPL 2021 will take place in the UAE from September 19, with the tournament postponed due to the spread of COVID-19 in its bubble.
The BCCI has decided to host the remaining matches in the UAE, which has successfully hosted IPL 2020.
CSK resumed its IPL campaign on September 19 with a match against Mumbai Indians.
Before the league was postponed, the Dhoni-led team was second with 10 points after seven games.
