The Kolkata Knight Riders are almost out of control in the easy run chase against Delhi Capitals in IPL Qualifier 2 and captain Ion Morgan has said that the last four overs will take place after the postmortem.
Breaking the 136-run target, KKR scored 123 for 1 in 15.5 overs, but when the match lost five wickets for just seven runs, a dramatic turn came and four batsmen were useless.
Rahul Tripathi, who eventually got the ball to KKR in the final against Chennai Super Kings, finally saved the ball with a six.
“It was very easy after we started. The openers gave us a great platform. We will separate what happened in the last four overs,” Morgan said in a post-match performance.
“It’s snowing and all, but hey, we’ve won and we’re in the finals. We’re excited to cross the line.
“Six off two balls, the odds are probably in favor of the bowling side, but Rahul Tripathi did us a great job.”
DC captain Rishabh Pant eventually faltered as his team took the game to the last over.
“I have no words to say right now, I can’t say anything,” he said.
“We put our faith in it and tried to stay in the game as long as possible. The bowlers almost pulled it back, but it was unfortunate it didn’t get in our way.
He credited the opposing bowlers for making it difficult to make runs.
“They bowled very well in the middle overs, we were stuck and could not rotate the strike,” Pant said.
“Delhi Capitals are positive and we will be doing well next season.”
KKR opener Venkatesh Iyer scored 55 off 41 balls and received the man of the match, he played freely and did not try to limit himself.
“In the last two games, I’ve been trying to limit myself a bit so I want to stay until the end. But then I thought it wasn’t me. I’m losing for the moment trying to be a little more traditional,” he said.
“(Opening partner Shubman) Gill is a fantastic stroke player. My whole focus is now on the final.”
In Match Winning Six, Tripathi said: “It feels great. Winning is very important. One or two tough overs, and it goes a lot deeper than we thought.
“The 18th over was a great over by Rabada. I had to connect one, luckily I connected today, so I’m very happy.
“It’s very hard for you to go inside. It’s hard to get to those boundaries. The ball is a little low. After the first step, we’re down a bit. We’m always looking for positive options.”
