One of the biggest success stories of 2020 was “Extraction,” the Chris Hemsworth-directed action vehicle that arrived in April 2020 and became one of the biggest streaming hits of the pandemic.
Hemsworth will reprise his role as Australian black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake for the follow-up which sees him somehow survive the end of the first movie and set off on his next mission. Also returning is Sam Hargrave as director and filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo as producers with Joe penning the script.
Promoting his own action thriller “The Gray Man,” Joe Russo spoke with collider and mocked the “Extraction” follow-up as more than just a retread, albeit with a cooler color filter and cooler weather:
“It’s great. It’s very different from ‘Extraction 1,’ which we like. It’s its own movie in that sense. It has a different color scheme. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone to the first.
And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story, is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get exactly the same movie that you got last time. So we’re very excited about that, and we think it was beautifully shot. Hemsworth is fantastic in it. And we are excited to share it with the public.”
Filming for “Extraction” wrapped in April, and Netflix has yet to reveal a release date or trailer for the sequel.
