Kochie’s Holiday Hell: Sunrise presenter David Koch suffers an airport disaster when his luggage goes missing after arriving in the UK

Sunrise co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch is taking an annual leave so he can attend his daughter’s wedding in London.

But it seems the 66-year-old’s travel plans have already gone awry.

On Sunday, the television veteran revealed that he had just arrived at Heathrow airport to find his backpack missing.

Fortunately, Kochie used Apple AirTag to find the exact location of the missing luggage and thanked the Qantas ground staff for “being so nice”.

‘It made it to the UK, but one case didn’t. Remember the stories from Sunrise last week about all the lost luggage at Heathrow airport and the guy who used to track their bags? Fortunately I accepted the hint, ”Kochie told the followers of him.

“The Qantas ground staff were very friendly and appreciated the directions on where to start looking.”

Kochie, a father of four, who has hosted Channel Seven’s breakfast show since 2002, will be out of work for about three weeks.

He announced his temporary departure in the closing moments of Thursday’s broadcast.

What is an AirTag?

An AirTag made by Apple is a tracking device shaped like a small disk similar to a keychain that can be attached to bags, electronic devices, and cars.

The device emits a weak Bluetooth signal that can anonymously pair with any Apple device within a 40m radius.

The worldwide network of Apple devices acts as a GPS grid that can report the location of the item in an app, in the same way that the Find My Phone feature works.

Users must acknowledge that tracking people is illegal. A built-in alarm will sound when the location is tracked.

The tags retail for around $45 AUD and competitor Samsung has a similarly priced version called the SmartTag.

Kochie said he was looking forward to walking his daughter Georgie down the aisle.

But he admitted that he was a little nervous because he had not yet met the family of his future son-in-law, Alex Merkel.

“We all shared a house with him and his parents for a week before the wedding and have never met them,” she said.

“It will be Father of the Bride or A Nightmare on Elm Street,” he joked.
