‘Shang Chi is not an experiment, we are ceiling breakers’: Simu Liu responds to Disney CEO Bob Chopek’s comments

Actor Simu Liu, who is heading Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings, has criticized Disney CEO Bob Chopek for “experimenting” for the upcoming Marvel superhero movie studio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chopek made the remarks in a revenue call Thursday while discussing the company’s future plans for theatrical releases, calling Shang-chi “an interesting experiment for us” as the film only has a 45-day theatrical window.

Destin was directed by Daniel Cretton, Shang-chi is set to theatrical release on September 3rd. Also starring Awkwafina, Ronny Chieng, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh, the film comes to the company Streamer Disney Plus 45 days after its release in movie halls.

Liu, who plays the title martial arts superhero Shang-chi, dismissed Chopek’s comments on Twitter on Saturday, saying the film was “not an experiment” but a “celebration of culture and pleasure” during the exams.

“We’re not an experiment. We’re underdog; we’re underestimated. We’re ceiling breakers. We’re a celebration of culture and happiness, perseverance after a year of being trapped.

“I deleted f *** to make history on September 3; join us,” Liu, 32, added in his tweet.

Shang-chi represents Disney’s second live-action A tent with Asian leads released between epidemics.

The first was Mulan, which was released on September 4, 2020 and was released on the same day at Disney Plus Premier Access.
