Richard Wilkins has revealed he was “unfazed” by seeing his son Christian Wilkins on the red carpet in a backless dress at the Logie Awards last month.

The 68-year-old entertainment reporter, who defended his son in an emotional Instagram post last month after he was criticized online for his Logie Award outfit, said Daily Telegraph Confidential on Sunday admiring his son’s ‘bravery and flair’.

Richard said his son is just having fun with his choice of fashion outfits.

‘I don’t get that (parents aren’t in their kid’s corner), but I certainly am. I didn’t flinch when I saw Christian in that dress. I didn’t think much of it,’ he told the publication of Christian’s Logie Award dress.

He admitted that there were ‘strange moments over the years’ when Christian came downstairs in an outfit he found a bit questionable.

‘It’s not all my cup of tea, I couldn’t make it. But he does it because he has fun.

Richard went on to praise his son for “shaking things up” with his bold sense of style.

I admire your bravery. She has great style. He is cutting edge. I’m bored in my black suit, black shoes and bow tie. I’m not really changing things, am I? he said.

In an Instagram post last month, Richard responded to critics after trolls suggested Christian, 26, was a “disappointment to the family”.

‘So… to anyone who dares to suggest that I am somehow ‘ashamed’ of my son Christian… for whatever reason… you are wrong!’ she was furious.

‘I couldn’t be more proud!! He is an exceptional human being who will leave his mark on the world long after his detractors have disappeared. I love you unconditionally.’

Richard wasn’t the only one to defend Christian, with his Today show co-star Karl Stefanovic also voicing his support for the blonde socialite.

More than exceptional. He is a light. A beautiful human light. Which comes from beautiful humans. And light,” Karl commented.

‘Anyone who thinks otherwise is not worth knowing you or paying attention to you. I love you guys so much. He flies higher,’ he added.

Christian also responded to a Twitter troll who criticized his extravagant wardrobe.

Anonymous user @SaraVic333 tweeted that it’s “not normal” for men to wear women’s clothing, before adding: “STOP normalizing this nonsense!!!”

Christian responded to this criticism by making fun of the way some people react hysterically to men who like to wear dresses.

What is happening to the world!!!! Masculinity is over!!! Burn everything!!’ he tweeted with the enthusiastic support of his Twitter followers.

Many fans praised the Filthy Rich and Homeless star for embracing a feminine look instead of the traditional tuxedo that men prefer on the red carpet.

“She’s so mad because you’re prettier than her and can take off a dress she definitely couldn’t…jealousy is a disease,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I think you are a fabulous role model,” added another.

Christian put his best foot forward in fashion last month when he hit the Logies red carpet in a sheer backless gown.

She wore her long blonde hair down, opted for a pair of quirky helmet-style heels, and accessorized with a dramatic necklace that draped her back.

Christian made sure the cameras caught him from every angle as he showed off his model features, including his chiseled jawline.

He talked about his experimental style in an interview with Body + Soul last year.

“I remember when I was working at Channel Nine just doing marketing and some days I would walk in with pink glitter in my eyes. And they were like, “Why are you wearing pink glitter?” she said.

“I’d say, ‘Because I woke up and I was kind of sad today, and I felt like it was a pink shimmer eyeshadow day.'” I have always dedicated myself to makeup in that spirit.

‘If you want to use it, if you want to do eyes and lips, who says you can only do one? Do it! Do what makes you feel good.
