“Deborah was an inspiring and unwaveringly brave woman whose legacy will live on.”

The tweet ended with his signature “W & C” to indicate that his message was personal.

Deborah’s death comes just weeks after she was awarded the title of Dame in recognition of her cancer fundraising efforts.

In May, the Duke of Cambridge traveled to her parents’ home in Woking, England, to present her with a medal.

“Prince William came to our family home today!!” she shared in a social media post.

“I am absolutely honored that he joined us for afternoon tea and champagne, where he not only spent a generous amount of time talking to my entire family, but also honored me with my Damehood.

“It’s pretty surreal to have a real pop in the house, and yes you can imagine the cleaning antics and prep going off the scale, but it was all beside the point because William was so nice and puts us all at ease.”

In a statement announcing Deborah’s death, her family wrote: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dame Deborah James – the most incredible wife, daughter, sister and mother.

“Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family. Deborah, who many of you will know as the Bowel Babe, was an inspiration and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and commitment to charity campaigns, fundraising and her endless efforts to raise awareness of the cancer that touched so many lives.

“Deborah shared her experience with the world to raise awareness, break down barriers, challenge taboos and change the conversation about cancer. Even in her most challenging moments, her determination to raise money and awareness was inspiring.”

“We thank them for giving us private time as a family, and we look forward to continuing Deborah’s legacy well into the future.”
