FX quickly delivered an order for the second season of its new espionage thriller series “The Old Man,” starring Jeff Bridges as a retired spy who returns to the world of espionage.

The order comes three episodes into the show’s seven-episode first season with ratings so far proving strong. FX says that, including three days of delayed viewing, the show is the most-watched cable series premiere since early 2021 and the biggest FX series on Hulu during its opening weekend.

Based on the best-selling novel by Thomas Perry, Bridges plays former CIA agent Dan Chase, who has quit his job and has lived off the grid for decades. He soon comes out of hiding from him when an assassin tracks him down and tries to kill him.

John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, Alia Shawkat, EJ Bonilla, Bill Heck, Leem Lubany and Pej Vahdat also star in the series adapted for television by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. Jon Watts (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”) directed the first two episodes.
