Emmy Awards host Cedric the entertainer and show producers promised it would be a celebration for everyone. But it can be a far greater gift, even historically, for some. These include Netflix Drama The Crown and Apple TV + Comedy Ted Lasso. Everyone will be considered in a row before Sunday for the best rank honors in their respective categories and their cast received the number of nominations.
Benefit more than shows. Successes in the best drama and comedy series categories ranked first for streaming services and reinforced their growing dominance over competitors ’frustration. But the event industry, which broadcasts EDT at 8pm on CBS, said the TV industry as a whole, still, including broadcast networks, is increasingly being perceived and respected among Emmys.
“Sometimes, the so-called ‘niche’ programs go away with awards and a lot of people. Going, ‘What’s that?’ “So we’re really caring about it and bringing in big stars that everyone knows and loves.”
Ellen Pompeo of Grace Anatomy, Tracy Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson (black-ish), and LL Cool J (“NCIS: Los Angeles”) were presenters. The ultimate goal of the producers is to celebrate the excitement and how much the importance of TV has increased during the epidemic and its lockdowns.
“When we first sat down with Cedric, we all quickly accepted the idea of a celebration,” Hudlin said. “The fact is, television is probably the best right now … and boy, do we ever need it?” It came at a very difficult time for us, “said Hudlin.
“We’re going to have a good time,” Cedric said. He has been roaring on recent and old nominated shows — retro-watching, as he dubbed — to make sure he was ready with equal-opportunity wizcracks. The best nominees were the British royal drama The Crown and Star Wars-Universe the Mandolorian, which received 24 nominations.
On the comedy side, feel-good comedian Ted Lasso competes with Black-Ish, Cobra Coy, Emily in Paris, Hux, The Flight Attendant, The Kominski Method and PEN15.
Other drama series contestants include past winner The Handmaid’s Tale and Lovecraft Country, which was canceled a season later, while cast members Jonathan Majers, Jurney Smolt, Unjun Ellis and the late Michael K. Williams died on September 6.
They are part of a field of diverse nominees. Of the 96 acting approvals for drama, comedy and miniseries, almost 44% – a total of 42 nominations – went to people of color. Their increase echoes the change in the U.S. population, the first time in census history that the number of people has been reduced to white.
