“The most annoying thing about going out where the show should be filmed is people thinking RuPaul wasn’t there,” Nicholson laughed.

Ru was there! she echoed her, before joking that they had to look at a tennis ball on a stick and actually green screen Michelle Visage.

Asked if the series should have been filmed in Australia instead of Auckland, Melbourne-based Simone said: “I think it should have been filmed in Australia.”

“I had to fly to New Zealand, quarantine and then film,” Simone complained.

Nicholson agreed: “I had to do five [separate] quarantines’.

Both stars said they weren’t surprised by the show’s success around the world.

“It went crazy… It caused a huge stir around the world and now there’s a second season coming,” Simone added.

It comes after viewers flooded Twitter and Reddit with their suspicions and ignited a bizarre theory that RuPaul didn’t actually film the show in person and shot his scenes remotely on a green screen.

“I feel like RuPaul isn’t really there,” one user wrote. “It might be the weird camera angles that make me doubt he’s really there, but especially during the tour, Ru usually walks around the room and talks to the queens.”

“We didn’t really see any shots from the ladies and RuPaul during the opening game. Does anyone agree or am I kidding myself?

Another user agreed, adding: ‘I think the quality of the production is in question here. Everything seems… off.

‘I thought it was just me! Something seems so strange about the way they are filming this show compared to the US/UK versions,” said a third.
