UP Assembly Elections 2022: Yogi, Akhilesh, Kejriwal, Mayawati, Wari Kinke Ram, Hoihi Soi Jo Rachi Rakha

Summary

The slogan for the 2017 UP elections is Ram Lehar, but in reality all parties are riding on Ram Lehar this time. All parties are joining hands with Ram in their own style to counter the BJP’s allegations of appeasement. That is why there is a lot of discussion on Ayodhya in this election. All parties hope that the name ‘Ramudu’ will be changed to his boat which was caught in the whirlpool.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is on a visit to Ayodhya, made a huge statement. Kejriwal said that if our government is formed in UP, the people of that state will be given free darshan like Ramla. At the same time, Kejriwal said, “We are running the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme within Delhi, under which free pilgrimages to the people will take place.” We will also include Ayodhya in the Chief Minister’s Padayatra scheme. Now even the people of Delhi will get free darshan of Ram Janmabhoomi.

Kejriwal saw Ram before Diwali. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ayodhya is being discussed at the annual Dipotsav event before Diwali. The event has been held every year since the Yogi Adityanath government came to power in the state in March 2017. Dipotsavam is celebrated one day before Diwali.

All the opposition parties in the state, including the Aam Aadmi Party, are in Ram Court this time and are following the path of soft Hindutva in connection with the UP elections. Whether it was the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of Delhi, which launched the tricolor flag march in Ayodhya, or the Bahujan Samaj Party, which started the Jnanodaya Samaj from here to attract Brahmins. In December 2020, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also visited Ayodhya. Then he said, “Lord Rama is so grandson to no one.” He said that I would visit my wife and children when the temple was built.

Yadav visited several temples across the state, including the famous Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura. However, the BJP is constantly targeting Akhilesh, accusing the SP of committing appeasement. Before him, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi also reached Ayodhya in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. On the occasion, Priyanka organized a road show for Congress candidate Nirmal Khatri and visited Hanuman Garhi. On the other hand, the BJP, which came to power at the Center and in the state with the Ram Mandir movement, believes that Lord Rama is a symbol of faith, but the Opposition sees it as a vote bank. Yogi Adityanath has visited Ayodhya 29 times since he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been visiting Ayodhya on several occasions, from Bhoomi Puja to the construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

The Yogi government first converted Faizabad district into Ayodhya and now Faizabad station into Ayodhya Kant. Reconstruction work is underway at the station. Ayodhya is being developed as an airport and a world class tourist destination. Political parties feel that they are taking turns in the Ram Court to thwart the BJP conspiracy as opposition parties are facing allegations of appeasing minorities, mainly Muslims.

Ram Dutt Tripathi, a senior journalist with a deep understanding of Uttar Pradesh politics, said that Ram was the hero of all and Gandhi was also the hero of Lohia, but that the BJP had turned it into a political Hindutva agenda, so other parties did not want it. They are called anti-Ramu or the BJP gets a chance to call them anti-Ramu, so they came under Ramu’s shelter.

Everyone ram
They (BJP) are trying to show that they have copyright on Lord Rama or Lord Krishna by accusing us of appeasing them, ”the SP leader said on condition of anonymity. But we are saying that God is only for all, not for the chosen few. We are also Hindus, but the BJP does the same vote bank politics wisely.

Will you win the election only in the name of Ramu?
Senior political analysts believe that Rama is a symbol of faith. Some parties put Ramu’s name in the election ring, but if only votes came in his name, after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, a BJP government would have been formed in UP in the 1993 assembly elections, but that did not happen. Mulayam Singh Yadav joined hands with Kanshiram in this election. Despite winning 177 seats, the BJP is far from in power.

The anti-BJP front in UP is ready. The second truth is that the BJP entered politics under the name of Ram Janmabhoomi and the party won over 300 seats. But there is no problem with the construction of Rama Mandir in this election because the construction of Rama Mandir has started, so there is nothing for the parties to protest now. On August 5, 2020, after PM Bhoomi paid homage to the Narendra Modi temple, elections were being held in UP for the first time, in which the BJP will definitely discuss the achievement of construction of Rama Mandir.

Ram Dutt Tripathi said that one cannot win elections on a single issue, which also includes issues of local and regional importance. Ramanamam may be part of it, but without working on the ground, all Hindus cannot win elections on this basis alone, as they are not necessarily with the Hindutva brand of the BJP.

How political appearances have changed
Before the construction of the Ram Mandir began, two types of ideologies were at work in political parties. One was in opposition to the Ram Mandir and the other in support of the temple. But now that the construction of the Rama Mandir has begun, no political party wants to risk it without support. Apart from that, all parties are investing heavily in the development of Ayodhya. According to Ram Dutt Tripathi, now that the Supreme Court has resolved the dispute, the hesitation in some political parties over the construction of the Ram Mandir has been removed. Now the election scenario in UP has changed.

So far no appeasement
Political experts say the issue of Muslim appeasement will dominate every election before the 2022 elections. With this, the burden had to be borne from Mulayam to Kalyan Singh. In 1990, Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister and said about the arrival of sadhus-monks and serfs on the disputed land that ‘even Parinde at Rama Janmabhoomi will not be killed’. On November 2, 1990, at his behest, 40 maids were killed in the firefight.

On October 30, 1990, five people were killed by bullets fired at landlords for the first time. Mulayam Singh had to bear the brunt of the shooting. In 1992, the then UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh lost his government when he did not open fire on the servants. Kalyan Singh was the most vocal voice of the party in UP during the Ram Mandir movement.

Experts say these two incidents have had a long-lasting impact on the UP elections. So far, however, there has been no talk of appeasing Muslims in this election. No political party has taken the risk of standing directly with Muslims. Clearly the Muslim vote bank is not in the eyes of political parties.
