The National Drug Price Regulatory Authority (NPPA) on Monday set the maximum price for 12 generic drugs used in the treatment of diabetes. These medications include glyphosate tablets, glucose infusion, and insulin solution.

The NPPA said in a tweet that the NPPA has set the maximum price of 12 drugs used in the treatment of diabetes so that every Indian can get cheap treatment for a disease like diabetes. Accordingly, the maximum retail price of Glimipiride 1 mg tablet is now Rs. 3.6 while a 2 mg tablet costs Rs. 5.72.

A 25 per cent strength glucose injection is priced at 17 paise, while a 40 ml IU / ml insulin (soluble) injection is priced at Rs 15.09. Similarly, the ER ml Intermediate Acting (NPH) solution insulin injection with a strength of 40 IU / ml was also priced at Rs.15.09. A 30:70 premixed insulin injection with a strength of 40 IU / ml was priced the same for each injection.

The NPPA has fixed the price of the 500mg Metformin Instant Release tablet at Rs 1.51, the 750mg tablet at Rs 3.05 and the 1g Metformin tablet at Rs 3.61.
