In fact the western region was considered to be the most challenging for the BJP due to the concerns of the farmers. The Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance did the right thing. It is hoped that the image of Jat-Muslim unity will emerge once again in this election and that the Akhilesh Yadav-Jayant Chaudhary duo will be seen fighting fiercely in the region.
Strategy to win the western castle
The party is adamant that it will face severe dissatisfaction from its own MLAs if it adopts a strategy of reducing more tickets. This is likely to severely damage the party’s election prospects. That is why the BJP has reconsidered its strategy and fielded very old faces.
However, a senior BJP leader conceded that rumors were circulating that the BJP was weakening in western Uttar Pradesh and that the Jat community’s vote bank had completely collapsed. This is completely incorrect. The peasant movement affected only a very limited area and many Jat voters are still with it today and it is reflected in the election results after the vote.
OBC, Dalits lead
The BJP gave 68 per cent of the tickets to backward Dalits and women. 10 women candidates got a chance to test their luck. In the first phase, 58 candidates gave tickets to 57 candidates and in the second phase, 55 candidates gave tickets to 48 candidates. There are 63 sitting MLAs in 83 seats while 20 new candidates have been fielded instead.
RLD national general secretary Tariq Mustafa Amar told Ujala that the BJP was trying its best to retain the lost seat. He only fielded sitting MLAs to avoid a stampede by the MLAs. He assured that no matter what strategy the BJP adopts, it will not be able to win this time.
