The Election Commission has announced that polling for 117 assembly seats in Punjab will be held on February 14. This voting will take place in a single phase. Notification will be on January 21st and enrollment will be by 28th. Names can be withdrawn till January 31 after scrutiny of nomination papers on January 29.

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy wrote that about 32 per cent of the Scheduled Castes live in Punjab. He writes that most people will go to Uttar Pradesh between February 10 and 16. With this he will not be able to vote in the election. In this context, voting should be extended by five to six days. With this, nearly 20 lakh people going to Banaras will be able to cast their vote in the Punjab elections. The Bahujan Samaj Party in Punjab has also demanded this in the past.
BSP president Jasveer Singh Garhi demanded that Guru Ravidas celebrate his 645th birth anniversary on February 16. As every year, on February 13-14, millions of devotees from Punjab and especially from Doba travel to Govardhanpur in Banaras, Uttar Pradesh, the birthplace of the Guru, on special trains for Guru Darshan. The voting date should be changed from February 14 to February 20 as he will not be able to vote.
