After the meeting, Channy said that all the parties had unanimously decided that the Central Government should withdraw the notification. If the government does not do so, the assembly will convene. Channy said it was a matter for Punjab and Punjabis. Law and order is a matter for the state and it is like an attack on our rights in the federal structure, all the political parties in Punjab are fighting together to withdraw the notification from the Center. The meeting was also attended by Navjot Sidhu. Chief Minister Channy said that political parties would agitate against the expansion of the BSF jurisdiction and would also approach the Supreme Court for justice.
Shiromani Akali Dal said that the Akali Dal was strongly opposed to the Centre’s increase in BSF jurisdiction in Punjab and that the party was standing with the state government to reach a consensus on the issue. Party spokesperson and senior vice-president Cheema said the Akali Dal would stand with the like-minded parties on all three agricultural laws, whether it was a water issue or not, when it came to the interests of Punjab. He said that we should all unite in the all-party conference and oppose the Centre’s decision. He said Punjab was watching today because of Chief Minister Channy. At the same time, former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh also joined hands with the Center.
