Listen to the news
Khalid Mansour, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan, addressed a CPEC conference at the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi on Saturday. On the CPEC issues here, Mansour said that one thing is clear that the US is opposed to the CPEC, given the evolving geo-strategic situation, and that India is also its supporter. According to the Dawn report, many Western intellectuals have described the CPEC as an economic trap that has already led to an increase in the level of public debt.
Allegations were made against India as well as the United States
Mansour said the US and India were trying to get Pakistan out of the China Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global infrastructure development plan under which the Chinese government was investing heavily in about 70 countries. As part of the CPEC, 71 projects are currently underway at a cost of US $ 27.3 billion. Pakistan is the seventh largest beneficiary of China’s foreign development financing project.
‘All attempts on China fail’
He said Western powers see the CPEC as a symbol of China’s political ambition, but have largely managed to dispel this fear. Mansoor said he would not give up profits under any circumstances. Fingers burned in the Western alliance in the past, this will never happen again. Mansour said his efforts to reduce China’s strategic influence in the region would fail. The United States is now assessing the economic and political consequences of its withdrawal from the region.
Trying to make Afghanistan a part of it
Mansoor said Islamabad was demanding the expansion of CPEC in Afghanistan. We discussed the possibility of reaching a multi-billion dollar economic corridor with Taliban-led Afghanistan. He said some European countries have also started showing interest in CPEC. He referred to the false news and negative publicity on the progress of the CPEC and said that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project would be on an unprecedented scale.
