Expansion

Sanjeev Goenka’s RPSG Group has acquired the Lucknow team for IPL 2022. During an auction in Dubai on Monday, RPSG Group bid the highest bid of Rs 7,090 crore in Lucknow. Following this, the BCCI gave him ownership of the team. Ekana Stadium could be the home ground for the Lucknow team. The group has already bought a team in the IPL. In 2016, the Rising Pune Supergiants team was in this group. The team played in the IPL for two years and even reached the final once.

A lot of matches have been played at Ekana Stadium in recent times. The stadium is also known as the Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium. It has a seating capacity of about 50,000. In July 2019, the BCCI declared Afghanistan the third home ground of the Afghanistan cricket team. Due to the Nawabi language of Lucknow and the convenience of the metro, its argument is also strong.
