The village of Malana, the world’s oldest democracy, is on fire again. More than a dozen houses were reported burnt in Kullu village in Himachal Pradesh. Raju Ram, head of the Malana panchayat, said 25 to 30 houses in Malana were burnt to the ground in the blaze.

The fire broke out in the village around one o’clock on Tuesday night. The fires engulfed several houses. Efforts to rescue homes continued throughout the night as fires erupted. The fire caused a loss of crores of rupees.

Earlier, about 100 houses in Malana were burnt to the ground. Following the fire, a team from the district administration was dispatched to the scene. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Deputy Commissioner Kul Ashutosh Garg said the damage caused by the fire was being assessed.
