The Election Commission of India (ECI) team met with political parties in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections on Thursday. The Election Commission reviews the overall election preparations with the District Electoral Officers / Deputy Commissioners and the CP / SSP and Chief Electoral Officer of all the 23 districts.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said the commission would take stern action against officials who try to create obstacles in the campaign. On this occasion he undertook various activities to create awareness on voting. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Election Commissioner said, “Our aim is to increase the voting percentage in this election.” To this end, the Commission operates a total of 30 mobile vans equipped with LED and audio systems across the state to create awareness on various issues including voter awareness and registration, ethical voting and EVM-VVPAT.
Two vans will be provided to large districts of the state and one van to small districts. During the event, the commission team from Delhi interacted for the first time with voters from various walks of life, including Divyang (PWD) voters and transgender voters. The Commission also honored these voters.
