Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday spoke on next year’s Goa Assembly elections. He said the Opposition and the TMC could not do well in this election and that the Congress was the only party suitable to defeat the BJP.
Listen to the news
In an interview with news agency PTI, I do not know the motive behind the launch of TMC’s Goa unit led by former finance minister Chidambaram Mamata Banerjee, which was done by encouraging defection. Chidambaram said an alliance of smaller parties for the Goa Assembly elections would be possible only if one party agrees that the Congress will be the center for a non-BJP alliance.
Rajya Sabha MP Chidambaram said Goa is one of the five states where assembly elections will be held next year. All the states are equally important and Goa is one of them. There is a special connection between the Congress and the people of Goa. The Congress has a good understanding of Goa and the people of Goa and the Goa lifestyle is unique. We are entering the election ring with the intention of winning the 2022 elections and forming a government.
Chidambaram said both the AAP and the TMC would not be able to play a significant role in the coming elections. The Op contested the 2017 election, but failed to make any impact. At the same time, TMC stepped in here in September this year and they have no ground level grip. The Congress is in a good position to defeat the BJP and form a government. If small parties tend, they can help us.
