An Excise Department employee was beaten by two men, including a councilor, at his office in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh. The employee allegedly beat up a local Congress MLA. Police arrested two people, including a municipal councilor, in connection with the case.
The aggrieved employee made the allegations against the Congress MLA
The aggrieved employee alleged that he was beaten on the orders of Mahasamund Congress MLA Vinod Sevenjalal Chandrakar. The MLA, however, denied the allegations. Mahasamund Additional Superintendent of Police Megha Temburkar Sahu said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at the excise office in the district magistrate’s office.
Two people, including a councilor, were arrested
Police arrested councilors Bablu Harpal and Deepak Thakur within the city’s Kotwali police station following a complaint by excise department employee Leelaram Sahu, a police official said. According to police, Sahu had lodged a complaint with MLA Chandrakar along with his colleagues Deepak Thakur and Bablu Harpal while he was at his office this afternoon. He was later beaten by Harpal and Thakur on the orders of an MLA.
The case was registered against the police under Section 353 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to prevent a government employee from performing his duties), 325 (voluntary causing serious injury), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (general intent) and others. The accused were arrested below
The MLA denied the allegations
When asked about the involvement of the MLA in the case, the police official said that no such thing was revealed during the investigation. The complainant was arrested. The matter is under investigation. Meanwhile, MLA Chandrakar condemned the allegations and said that an attempt was made to thwart the attack at the excise office.
The BJP has demanded the dismissal of a Congress MLA
Meanwhile, the state’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the dismissal and arrest of an MLA in the case. BJP state vice-president Motilal Sahu alleged that the spirits of criminals have been stirring since the Congress came to power. In the arrogance of power, Congress MLAs and leaders also accused it of being shameful to behave as professional criminals.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh BJP chief Vishnu Dev Sai tweeted: The Congress party should immediately sack the MLA who has committed such a criminal act.
