Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that there is no shortage of funds for the ongoing installation of prepaid smart electricity meters in the state. Energy officials are doing their job themselves and the project will be completed by March 2025. He said the installation of pre-paid smart meters in all homes would not only facilitate consumers but also alleviate the problem of false bills.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that by March 2025, smart pre-paid meters will be installed in every household. Nitish Kumar inaugurated, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects in the energy sector worth Rs 3452.11 crore at an event organized in Patna on Wednesday. Also, a state-wide smart pre-paid meter scheme has been launched at a cost of Rs 12,657 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Nitish Kumar said, “There is a lot of work going on in the power sector in the state. What was the power situation in Bihar earlier? In 2005, only 700 MW of electricity was supplied. Today 6,627 MW of electricity is being consumed.
The Chief Minister said that there was no shortage of funds for the ongoing prepaid smart electricity meter clamping works in the state and the Energy Department officials were completing their works and the project would be completed by March 2025. “Installing pre-paid smart meters in all homes will not only provide convenience to customers but also eliminate the problem of incorrect billing. In addition, the revenue of power companies in the state will also increase.
He said that every house was given electricity. The target is to provide electricity to every household by December 2018, which was completed two months ago in October 2018.
Nitish said that in order to bring electricity to the homes of the people from the power plant, several steps have to be taken and it will be better implemented by the energy department. He said Bihar was the first state to provide power connections up to 19 kW load capacity online in all urban and rural areas through the Suvidha app.
A lot of work is also being done in the field of solar energy. A 200 MW solar power plant is to be set up in Bihar. Work on 100 MW solar power plants will begin in Jamui and Banka. Sutlej Jal Electric Nigam Limited will set up the plant. Rs 1000 crore will be spent for this. Nitish Kumar said Bihar was the first state in the country to install smart prepaid meters. Smart pre-paid meters will be installed in Bihar from 2019.
Smart prepaid meters will be installed in every house. The Department of Power aims to install smart pre-paid meters in five phases per household by March 2025. During the program, 48 power substations were started and laid today with a total cost of Rs 325 crore under the auspices of distribution companies. 877 crore for construction of transmission line from seven grid substations to distribution system and Rs. 817.35 crore for transfer of power from Buxar Thermal Power Establishment to Transmission Line.
