In the US, the move comes in the wake of a federal law governing the creation of public documents held by the government. It was not immediately clear whether the release of the documents would change public perception of Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, by gunman Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas.
The documents include memos describing the CIA ‘cables’ and discussions on the Oswald revelation. However, these included visits to the Soviet Union and the Cuban embassy in Mexico City, as well as days after the assassination, which did not explicitly state Cuba’s involvement in Kennedy’s assassination. Additional documents will be released next year.
Kennedy’s daughter elected ambassador to Australia
President Joe Biden has announced the nomination of Caroline Kennedy, daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, who served as ambassador to Japan during the reign of former President Barack Obama, as ambassador to Australia. Biden also hired American Olympic skater Michelle Kwan to serve as his chief ambassador to Belize.
Caroline Kennedy said she would work to strengthen US-Australia relations if my name is approved. Biden has appointed Victoria Kennedy, another member of the Kennedy family, a lawyer by profession and the widow of MP Ted Kennedy, as his ambassador to Austria. His name was confirmed in the Senate in October.
