16th East Asia Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th East Asia Summit today. The event on Wednesday will focus on terrorism as well as regional and international interests.

The East Asia Summit is a forum led by prominent leaders in the Indo-Pacific. Since its inception in 2005, it has played an important role in the strategic and geopolitical development of East Asia. In addition to the 10 ASEAN member countries, the East Asia Summit includes India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia.
India, a founding member of the East Asia Summit, is committed to strengthening the East Asia Summit and making it more effective in tackling contemporary challenges. It is an important platform to advance practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific on the integration of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AoIP) and Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI).
These topics will be discussed
At the 16th East Asia Summit, the leaders will discuss issues of regional and international interest and concern, including maritime security, counter-terrorism and cooperation in Kovid-19. Leaders are also expected to accept statements on India-co-sponsored mental health, economic recovery through tourism and green recovery.
