Sunday is Dev Anand’s 99th birthday. The actor-filmmaker was known as “Evergreen Dev Anand” and became popular as a romantic hero. In an interview, he once said that he was “always in love”.

Dev Anand told Reuters in 2008, “Romance is beautiful. I will always be in love. But that does not mean you are always sleeping with women. Thinking about a beautiful girl or even reading poetry can be romantic.

Dev Anand fell in love with Surya. He talked about it and confirmed that they fell in love when they started working together. He called her his first love and mentioned that it was passionate and very intense. Dev Anand also spoke about his attraction to Zeenat Aman in his autobiography, Romance with Life.

He wrote, “Whenever and wherever I talked about her, I loved it; and when I discussed where and when she was in the same mood, she was hilarious. Subconsciously, we became emotionally attached to each other. I mean, to be honest, it’s meant for romance in a very, very special place. I chose Rendezvous at the Taj, above the city.

However, Dev Anand did not propose to her after seeing her in the same place with Raj Kapoor. After his book arrived, Zeenat said he was unaware of his feelings.

Born in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, he has a long career spanning six decades. He has worked in films such as Guide, Taxi Driver, Jewel Thief and CID. Dev Anand was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002. During the infamous 1975 National Emergency, he led a group of cine celebrities against the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The actor-director-producer worked until his end. His last project chargesheet was released in 2011, months before his death. Dev Anand is also planning an extension of his cult hit, Hare Rama Hare Krishna. He died of a heart attack in London in December 2011 at the age of 88.

When asked if he was worried about anything in his life, Dev Anand told the Hindustan Times in a 2008 interview, “No. Hence, even today, I am filled with so much energy and enthusiasm. This involvement in life is important. It is visible on your face, body and system. This will prevent you from aging. “
