After Mumbai police filed an FIR against actor Rajat Bedi for dropping a man with his car, his business manager Sridevi Shetty on Tuesday issued a clarification. Sridevi claimed that Rajat was not driving recklessly. The director added that Rajat took the man, known as Rajesh Ramsingh Dutt, to Kober Hospital for treatment and ‘he himself reported it to the police’.
Earlier, ANI news agency quoted DN Nagar Police Officer Milind Kurdi as saying, “Rajat Bedi himself was driving and hit a man named Rajesh Dhut when he was crossing the road yesterday evening near the Cooper Hospital in Mumbai.”
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sridevi Shetty said, “The man was drunk, and suddenly he came from somewhere. Rajat was not driving recklessly. He immediately took him to Kober Hospital and got his treatment. Last night they had no blood, so Rajat arranged for that too, and stayed in Hospital until 12:30 – 1. Rajat’s friend is in the hospital now taking care of the medicine and treatment. He also reported himself to the police.”
The news agency report added that police officer Milind also said that the victim is in a critical situation at the moment and the actor left the hospital when they got there after getting information about the accident. However, the hospital informed the police that the actor had confessed to his crime and was ready to reimburse the cost of treating the victim. But the police reported that the actor has not returned to the hospital since then.
Rajesh, a resident of DN Nagar in Mumbai, was hit by Rajat Bedi’s car while returning from work on Monday. Police registered a case against Rajat Bedi under Sections 279 and 338 of the Iraqi Penal Code, and summoned the accused on Tuesday for investigation. However, no one has been arrested yet.
The victim’s wife, Babita Dutt, told midday that her husband was drunk when the accident occurred. She also said he sustained injuries to the back of his head. She said, “At the hospital, Bedi told us that my husband suddenly came in front of the car. He assured us of help and said that he and his driver Suresh were there in the hospital. But after some time, he said he would leave for a while, but he never came back.” Babita also requested Rajat’s arrest.
A midday doctor said, “His condition is very critical, with head injuries. He is in the intensive care unit and on oxygen support. He urgently needs blood.”
