Kareena Kapoor Khan said that the voice of women artists should be normalized for equal pay in the film industry because wage equality signifies respect for women. Kareena, in an interview with The Guardian, is happy that more female actors are starting to raise the unfortunate gender pay inequality in Bollywood. The actress also said that she was aware of her value and had no trouble putting it out during the talks.
“A few years ago, neither man nor woman actually talked about getting equal pay in cinema. Now a lot of us are very vocal about it.”
The actor was recently trolled for raising her fees to play Sita in a remake of the upcoming Ramayana. The actor did not respond directly to reports that she had asked for Rs 12 crore for the film, which required more commitment from her. “I have made it clear what I want and I want to be respected. It’s not about being demanding, it’s about being respectful towards women. And I think things are changing,” Kareena said.
Earlier, in an interview to NDTV, he said, “What is next for Kareena Kapoor Khan? You have a movie with Aamir Khan at the end of this year, there was talk that you are getting ₹ 12 crore, you are asking for 12 crore, other actresses have come to support you, but I think it is fake news. Kareena did not respond directly, shaking her head and saying, “Yes, yes …” Kareena has received a lot of support from other famous actresses.
Among the many things the actor talked about in the interview was also about breaking the age-old stereotypes attached to female artists. Over the years, female actors have been forced to say goodbye to their careers after marriage. But Kareena, who married Saif Ali Khan in 2012, has not only continued to work but has also given some great successes in her career and is related regardless of her marital status or two pregnancies.
Kareena says she has followed her heart despite warnings from close friends. “When I married Saif, a lot of people told me that my career was coming to an end because no producer wanted to work with a married actress. At that time, no other Bollywood actress got married and continued working. But I thought: Well, if it ends my career, That’s good, that’s my destiny .I will never marry someone I love.
Kareena followed her heart by working through her first and second pregnancies (she gave birth to Timur Ali Khan in 2016 and welcomed her second child earlier this year). She starred in Ekta Kapoor’s Veer De Wedding during her first pregnancy.
“A lot of Bollywood actors, when they are pregnant, do not go out of the house because they are stressed about how they will look, they are no longer this glamor diva, they are worried if people put some weight on themselves to assess themselves. Those bans are still a lot. But I own it I wanted to do it, ”she said.
Kareena Kapoor Khan is now waiting for the Aamir Khan starrer Lal Singh Chadha, which is set to hit theaters in December.
Her producer, bankrolling director Hansal Mehta also became the next heroine, in which she also starred. The film will be co-produced by Ekta Kapoor.
