Farhan Akhtar was the last guest of Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, Pinch Season 2. He addressed criticism of trolls and also faced some challenges on the show.
During the episode, Farhan responded to a comment calling him a “failed hero” and another asking him to get out of “Rock On” mode. “It’s like telling Jaggu dada to get out of his ‘Bhidu’ mode, you can’t tell him to do it, that’s what it is,” he said.
Arbaaz also read mean comments about Farhan’s singing. “Whether it was the songs of Rock On, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Atrangi Yaari, which I got with Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan, all the songs were good. Farhan replied, but, of course, I totally understand one thing, which is that it is not a traditional voice of a playback singer.
Farhan said he does not sing to others “because (he (is not)) a playback singer”. He added that he only sings when he feels it will lend “credibility” to his performance. “I totally enjoy it, and I don’t apologize for it at all.”
Farhan spoke about watching Don as a child and how he “feared” about the titular Amitabh Bachchan. “This is my hero and he is an evil, mean and violent person. This has been in my head for a long time,” he said, adding that the idea to paraphrase Don was born during a conversation with his sister Zoya Akhtar. He also said he’s inundated with Don 3 submissions, often accompanied by violations.

Arbaaz also gave Farhan a challenge to compose a verse on the spot using three words – “Shadat,” “Mahfuz,” and “Ons.” While Farhan managed to come up with a few lines, he joked, “Iske baad main jaaydaad se bedakhal kiya jaunga (after that, my family will disown me).” Farhan’s father is a poet and poet, Javed Akhtar.
