The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday issued a showcause notice to producers for violating the Bhavai certification rules starring Pratik Gandhi and tampering with film content.
Musical drama, about the form of famous folk theater from Gujarat, Earlier it was named as Ravana Leela. It was directed by Hardik Ghajjar and supported by Penn Studios.
According to the CBFC, the manufacturers changed the title of the trailer and included “deposited” parts with the body.
“CBBC has sought clarification from the producers of ‘Bhavai’ for breach of certification rules and tampering with the film ‘content.
“However, I would like to make it clear that violating the CBFC Certification Rules is not acceptable, as it compromises the role of Systems & Balance. It also portrays the industry in an irresponsible manner,” he added.
Following the release of the Bhavai trailer last week, the makers made two edits – changing the title of the film and removing a sequence starring two actors, Ram and Rawan, after a section criticized it as objectionable.
The CBFC said the twisted trailer was against cinematograph certification regulations. Showcase said it had sought clarification from the makers by issuing a notice and that their answer was currently under consideration.
Pen Studios is not available for comment.
Bhavai, starring Aindrita Ray, Rajendra Gupta, Rajesh Sharma and Abhimanyu Singh, is set to release theatrically on October 1.
