Actor Akshay Kumar, Thursday, shared a photo with his late mother Aruna Bhatia on his birthday. Taking to Instagram, a day after her death, Akshay said she should sing from ‘right there’ on his birthday.
Sharing the post, he wrote, “I would never have loved her this way but I’m sure my mum would sing me Happy Birthday from there! Thank you to each and every one of you for your condolences and wishes alike. And life goes on.”
Akshay’s mother was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hiranandani Hospital and died on Wednesday morning. The 53-year-old actor shared the news of his mother’s death on social media. The cause of her illness is not yet known.
In a post, Akshay wrote, “She was my heart. Today I feel unbearable pain at the core of my existence. Mai Simt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world this morning and met my father in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family are going through this period. Om Shanti.”
Her last rites were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Pawan Hans crematorium on the outskirts of Mumbai. The funeral was attended by many Bollywood celebrities, including Riteish Deshmukh, Sajid Khan, Rohit Shetty and Ramesh Turani.
Many fans and fellow industry have taken to social media to express their condolences. Actor Salman Khan said, “Dear Aki, very sad to hear of your mother’s passing. May God have mercy on her. My deepest condolences to you and your entire family.”
Ajay Devgn wrote, “Dear Akki, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mother. May Arunaji’s soul find eternal peace. My condolences to you and your family. Om Shanti.”

Earlier on Monday, Akshay, who was shooting for his upcoming movie Cinderella, returned to Mumbai from London.
