Producer Mahaveer Jain has announced a biopic on the life of popular comedian Kapil Sharma to be directed by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba.
Producer Mahaveer Jain on Friday announced the biopic of popular comedian Kapil Sharma. The film, titled Funkar, will be directed by Fukre director Mrigdeep Singh Lamba.
Commenting on the film, Mahaveer Jain said, “Billions of people are getting their daily dopamine dose, courtesy Kapil Sharma. We all need love, life and laughter. We are proud to present the untold story of comedy superstar Kapil Sharma on the big screen, in a big way.”
Mrigdeep, who is currently busy shooting for Fukre3, said, “I look forward to bringing the story of Kapil Sharma, India’s most beloved ‘Funkar’, to the audience.” Funkar is an Urdu word that roughly translates to ‘artist’.
Kapil has a long way to go from his modest background in Amritsar to becoming one of the most popular entertainers in India. After winning The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3 in 2007, Kapil appeared on comedy circuses and other comedy shows.
In 2013, he launched his own Variety chat show Comedy Nights with Kapil, which soon became one of the most watched TV shows in the country. Three years later, the show was canceled due to Kapil and Chanel’s disagreement on monetary terms.
Soon a new show was launched on a different channel. Named The Kapil Sharma Show, the show has been dominating the comedy space since 2016. He will soon be launching his own Netflix special titled Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done It, which will air later this month.
